Victorian muff chain
A stunning piece of antique jewellery, 54” long.

14ct gold (not plated)

These  chains were used by ladies/gents to loop there muffs through to keep there hands warm, the muffs were introduced to women’s fashion in the 16th century. During the 17th/18th century men were using them as well. During this time it was seen as an indicator of effeminacy in men. Samuel Pepys was known to borrow his wifes muff on his travels in 1662.
